The expansion of Terminal I at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has commenced as the Government moves to increase the terminal’s capacity to 10 million passengers annually, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku told Aviation Voice.
The Deputy Minister said Maga Engineering Ltd. has commenced mobilisation for the one-year project, which includes 36 new check-in counters and a fully equipped lobby area.
Three additional projects linked to the Terminal I expansion are also expected to be awarded within the next two months, with all four projects targeted for completion within 12 months.
