Companies from China, India and Oman are among the bidders that have submitted proposals to operate Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), according to internal sources.
The Sri Lankan Government called for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from domestic and foreign investors to operate the airport, with a Cabinet-appointed committee tasked with evaluating proposals and negotiating with prospective investors.
A total of 19 proposals have been received following the extension of the original June 8 deadline by one month. The proposals are currently under evaluation.
Mattala Airport was developed at a cost of nearly US$190 million, financed through a loan from China Exim Bank, and was officially opened in March 2013.
