The Ministry of Defence has reviewed progress on security and operational measures for Sri Lanka’s domestic aviation sector during a meeting chaired by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) on 21 July.
Discussions focused on improving security clearance procedures, streamlining operational processes, and enhancing airspace management while maintaining national security requirements. The meeting also considered a proposal to establish a dedicated helicopter landing facility in Colombo Port City to support business, tourism, executive transport, and emergency response operations.
Representatives of the Aircraft Operators and Owners Association (AOAOA) said that nearly 90% of long-standing operational and regulatory issues affecting the domestic aviation sector have now been resolved through the Ministry of Defence’s intervention and cooperation from relevant stakeholder agencies.
