The Student Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to Host Aerominds’26 – Annual Aviation Workshop for School Students
The Student Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (RAeS KDU) is set to host Aerominds’26, its annual two-day aviation workshop, on 25th and 26th of July 2026 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, KDU, Ratmalana.
Now in its latest edition, Aerominds is one of Sri Lanka’s most anticipated youth aviation outreach programmes, bringing together school students from Grade 8 to A/L from across the country for an immersive introduction to the world of aviation and aerospace.
This year’s programme, themed “Soaring Beyond Limits,” will feature a series of educational lecture sessions, hands-on activities, aircraft and helicopter visits, RC aircraft demonstrations, engine demonstrations, and mission-based competitions including a water rocket challenge and glider design competition. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with aviation industry professionals through an expert panel discussion themed “The Flight Plan Nobody Gave Us: From Student to Aviation Professional.”
Approximately 250 students are expected to participate across the two days, competing as squadrons through a storyline-driven rescue mission that ties together all activities and challenges of the programme.
The event is organised by the RAeS KDU Student Chapter, the only student chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society in Sri Lanka, established in 2018 under the Corporate Partnership between KDU and the RAeS.
Registrations are currently open, with individual participation available at Rs. 7,000 per student. Special group discounts are available for schools registering teams of five or more.
