BIA Terminal 2 Construction Set to Resume, Work Expected to Begin in November

Construction of the long-delayed second passenger terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport is expected to resume later this year, following discussions between Sri Lankan authorities and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Officials discussed expediting loan approvals and contract finalization, with the aim of recommencing construction in November. The project, funded through a Japanese government loan facilitated by JICA, was suspended in 2022 amid Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.

The contractor selection process is now in its final stages and JICA has indicated its target of completing the terminal within 30 months from the date construction resumes.
