“With the onset of winter, Sri Lanka is witnessing the arrival of many new airlines, marking a strong comeback for our aviation and tourism sectors. On the October 28th alone, two flights from Russia’s Red Wings and Belarus’ Belavia landed in Mattala Airport, bringing over 650 tourists, while Switzerland’s Edelweiss Airlines commenced services to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
We cannot abandon Mattala, we must develop it further. As the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, together with the government, we are making the necessary arrangements to strengthen operations and facilities at both airports.
With tourists arriving in large numbers, this winter will be a very busy and promising season for Sri Lanka’s aviation industry. The Civil Aviation Authority is working hand in hand with all relevant organizations to ensure that both new and existing airlines receive the best possible support,” said Sunil Jayaratne, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, at the launch ceremony of Belavia Airlines flights to Sri Lanka held in Colombo.
