The 60th Asia-Pacific DGCA Conference (DGCA/ 60) officially opened in Sendai, Japan, from 28 July to 1 August 2025, hosted by the Civil Aviation Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Held under the theme “The Sustainable Skies of the Asia-Pacific Region”, the conference welcomed over 400 participants from 35 States and 12 international organizations.
Representing Sri Lanka, Mr. Rayhan Wanniappa, Acting Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), is attending as the main delegate.
ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar emphasized the importance of consistent safety standards, while Japan’s Minister of Transport, Mr. Nakano Hiromasa, addressed the region’s projected doubling of air traffic by 2043. The event features 160 technical papers across 10 agenda items and opened with a traditional Kagura dance, reflecting Japan’s cultural heritage.
