Air Vice Marshal H. M. S. K. B. Kotakadeniya (Retd) retired from his position as Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) on 26th June 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
Appointed by the previous administration on 13 March 2024, AVM Kotakadeniya had earlier served as a Board Director of CAASL since 12 August 2022.
According to reliable sources, an Acting Director General has already been appointed, with an official confirmation expected shortly.
The current government remains firm on its policy of not extending service beyond the age of 60, in line with ongoing administrative reforms. This approach is commendable, as it allows the next layer of leadership to take on responsibilities and contribute to the progress of organizations.
