17 Injured After Air India Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence En Route from Phuket to Delhi

An Air India Airbus A320neo operating Flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday (04) after experiencing a sudden 300-foot loss of altitude during the cruise phase of the flight.

The aircraft was carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members. Despite the unexpected altitude deviation, the flight continued safely and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 11:07 a.m. IST without any further operational issues.

According to Air India, 17 people (13 passengers and four cabin crew members) sustained injuries during the turbulence and were taken to hospital for medical evaluation after landing. Medical teams attended to all affected individuals immediately upon arrival. The airline said five passengers had been discharged by 6:50 p.m. IST on August 4, while the remaining injured continued to receive treatment and care.

The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of in-flight turbulence and the importance of passengers keeping their seat belts fastened whenever seated, even when the seat belt sign is switched off.
